Scottish energy tech firm in Dorset green hydrogen deal

The £2 million contract with Canford Renewable Energy will enable the production, transport and use of green hydrogen fuel as part of plans to develop Dorset’s ‘green hydrogen economy’, using 5MWh of renewable energy generated from an adjoining solar park.

The Dorset Green H2 Project will be fully operational by September 2022 and aims to deliver on-site green hydrogen refuelling for local refuse collection and heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). In addition, green hydrogen will be exported off-site to support regional applications in EV charging, industrial processes, export-to-grid and off-grid power projects.

It estimated the project could offset more than 2,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent (tCO2e) emitted by diesel vehicles across the region and will enable local stakeholders from Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP) and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) to decarbonise their existing and future fleets.

Earlier this year, Logan Energy announced that it is working with the University of Warwick and Midlands-based Hy-Met to develop the next generation of hydrogen refuelling equipment for HGVs. The Hydrogen Prototype Equipment for Refuelling (HyPER) project aims to make it cheaper and easier to refuel hydrogen-powered vehicles.
