FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Strategic partnership will drive the development of hydrogen infrastructure and regional aviation

Open Skies Network Ltd, a leading Future Flight infrastructure company, and Logan Ltd, a specialist in integrated hydrogen energy systems, have announced a new strategic partnership that will accelerate the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure for aviation to support the UK’s transition towards zero-emission flight.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) brings together Open Skies Network’s expertise in Future Flight infrastructure, aviation partnerships and commercial deployment with Logan’s extensive experience in hydrogen production, storage, refuelling and integrated energy systems.

The partnership will focus on identifying commercial opportunities across the rapidly emerging hydrogen aviation sector while jointly developing innovative infrastructure solutions capable of supporting the next generation of hydrogen-powered aircraft operating from regional airports, aerodromes and locations initially within Open Skies Network’s early adopter UK market partner sites.

Under the agreement, Open Skies Network will use its extensive network of partner locations and aviation stakeholders including airports, aerodromes, aircraft manufacturers, regulators to help identify new commercial opportunities for Logan within the aviation sector. This includes supporting Civil Aviation Infrastructure development, undertaking collaborative projects, and pursuing future demonstration and research opportunities.

In return, Logan will provide Open Skies Network with technical expertise across hydrogen production, storage, transportation and energy systems, supporting the development of hydrogen infrastructure at Open Skies Network locations that is specifically tailored to the needs of regional aviation. Logan’s hydrogen experience across multiple sectors will play an important role in shaping practical and scalable solutions for future hydrogen-powered flight.

The partnership will also see both organisations jointly pursue public and private investment opportunities, collaborating on research programmes, funding applications and commercial projects that support the deployment of hydrogen infrastructure across the UK.

Unlike many current hydrogen aviation initiatives, which are focused on large commercial airports and liquid hydrogen, the partnership will concentrate on the practical deployment of gaseous hydrogen infrastructure for regional airports, private aerodromes and General Aviation. The partners believe this represents the most likely route to early commercial adoption of hydrogen-powered aviation, particularly as the first generation of hydrogen aircraft enters service.

The collaboration will also investigate how hydrogen can be safely produced on-site through renewable-powered electrolysis, enabling smaller aerodromes to become energy-independent whilst supporting aircraft refuelling, electric aircraft charging and wider community energy resilience through integrated hydrogen microgrids.

The partnership will initially focus on early adopter Open Skies Network locations within the UK , however the partnership also reflects the international ambitions of both organisations. By combining their complementary expertise, the partnership aims not only to accelerate hydrogen aviation within the UK but also to develop scalable solutions and best practice that can be adopted by regional airports and aviation operators around the world. The collaboration will help to position the UK as a global leader in hydrogen aviation infrastructure and sustainable regional air transport.

Gareth Whatmore, Chief Executive Officer of Open Skies Network, said:

“Hydrogen represents one of the greatest opportunities to transform regional aviation over the coming decades, but aircraft are only one part of the solution. The supporting infrastructure is equally important. By partnering with Logan, we are bringing together two organisations with complementary expertise to develop practical, scalable hydrogen infrastructure that can be deployed at Open Skies Network partner aerodrome locations throughout the UK.

Our ambition is to ensure that hydrogen aviation is not confined to major international airports. We want to demonstrate how smaller aerodromes can safely produce, store and utilise hydrogen, creating a network capable of supporting everything from uncrewed aircraft and Advanced Air Mobility through to regional passenger services.”

Ahmad El-kharouf, Business Development Lead of Logan, said:

“Hydrogen is a key energy vector for the decarbonisation of aviation, and we are delighted to be partnering with Open Skies Network to help accelerate this transition across the locations in their network. By combining Logan’s expertise in hydrogen technologies and infrastructure with Open Skies Network’s knowledge of Future Flight programmes and aviation infrastructure, we are well positioned to develop practical solutions that support the next generation of zero-emission aircraft.

We look forward to working together to advance to demonstrate how hydrogen can play a central role in the future of sustainable aviation.”

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to supporting the UK’s Net Zero ambitions while positioning the country at the forefront of hydrogen aviation innovation. Through collaborative project development and knowledge sharing, Open Skies Network and Logan aim to establish a blueprint for hydrogen aviation infrastructure that can be replicated nationally and internationally.
